JoiAnguli and Pamela Scott

Joi Scott is a 2021 graduate of De La Salle High School where she earned several awards and honors, being named the American Legion Award recipient. She attends Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia where she is studying finance. She was elected as freshman class representative for the Student Government Association and in that capacity, traveled throughout the state of Georgia sharing their accomplishments and discussing the needs of the student body. Currently, she is instrumental in planning and organizing student activities on campus.

In high school, she noticed that the smartest students were confident and proud of their cultural history and heritage. She also observed other students state that they wished they were of a different race, and these were usually the students who struggled in school. She decided to create Black history activity and coloring to inspire and empower youth with stories of ingenuity, perseverance, and resilience from Black history.

Her mother joined her in this effort, and they created Color of History, and published their first themed black history activity and coloring book, “Untold Stories of the Underground Railroad”. The book has been sold across the country and incorporated into youth and school programs. They went on to write and publish Untold Stories of the Underground Railroad, Vol I, Untold Stories of the Buffalo Soldiers, and Untold Stories of the Harlem Renaissance.

Joi is a Junior Board Member of Heart N Hands, an organization that educates girls about heart health. She helped guide the organization by sharing her ideas and opinions on programs, services, and strategies. She was also instrumental in educating hundreds of girls about heart health at Heart N Hands events; and helped organize community health and fitness events, and healthy snack distributions.

Joi volunteers at her church, New Magnolia Baptist Church in Schriever, Louisiana where she devoted time serving as a junior usher and volunteered with the church’s summer feeding program, Vacation Bible School, Easter activities, and fall festival events.
