Anyrah Shavéh is an award-winning poet and author from New York City by way of Flint, Michigan. She creates thought-provoking and inspirational poetry rooted in women empowerment, feminist traditions and critiques societal norms. Anyrah’s debut collection of poetry, water the flowers in your hair was published in 2020. She is known for standing in her strength on stage and moving the audience with her compelling delivery. Anyrah’s work has been highlighted on multiple media outlets and has reached millions online. In 2023, she was a host and performer for the inaugural AFROPUNK HERSTORY event at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.

Anyrah is an alumna of Tennessee State University and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. During her undergraduate years, she won 1st place in the Tennessee State University Oratorical Contest in 2016. She worked in corporate global marketing for 5 years before pursuing her passions full-time in poetry and performing.

Anyrah is a teaching artist and workshop facilitator with experience in teaching K-5th grade scholars creative writing and performance poetry. Anyrah’s primary goal in teaching is to empower scholars and creative artists to amplify their voices to spark change in the world.
