Forging Resilience

Forging Resilience works to create a near future in which more individuals in more of our communities collaborate to address local environmental challenges.

We support public libraries and museums as community anchors by providing free resources for building civic participation around local environmental challenges. Organized into topical toolkits, these resources aid cultural institutions in the work they already do to build knowledge, understanding, and problem-solving skills within communities. Empowered community members can then take action on issues important to them. Lifelong science learning, art, civics education, community organizing, and place-based action are the building blocks we use to forge resilient communities.

At the heart of Forging Resilience is the belief that healthy, vibrant communities can adapt to changing circumstances—including climate impacts. Such communities are resilient, inclusive, and resourceful—able to discuss difficult concerns and identify and enact solutions that work for the entire community. Our goal is to bridge the gap between climate solutions posed by experts and the on-the-ground obstacles that prevent individuals and communities from adopting those solutions.

Forging Resilience is a project of the Center for Law, Energy, & the Environment, a research institute at the University of California Berkeley School of Law.
