The Upstate Bluegrass Project is a youth-focused initiative designed to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of Bluegrass music while fostering leadership, community involvement, and personal growth. Through engaging workshops, jam sessions, and performances, participants learn to play instruments, explore the history of Bluegrass, and develop teamwork and communication skills. The project emphasizes mentorship and collaboration, encouraging youth to share their talents and passions with their peers and the broader community. By combining musical education with leadership training, the Upstate Bluegrass Project nurtures well-rounded individuals who appreciate tradition and are equipped to give back to their communities.


March:

  • Kick-off meeting to introduce participants to the project.
  • Distribute materials

April - July

  • Jam Sessions with workshops to build skills, locations & dates vary based on county

August: End of Project Demonstration

  • Table top displays with poster board displays & record books
  • Optional open mic opportunity for youth
  • Turn in Record Books - Deadline August 29th

September:

  • Optional End-of-Project Trip to IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association).

Membership requirement: Current 4-H membership in 4HOnline is required for participation in this project.

Custodial Care: Please note that this event and its coordinators do not assume custodial care of youth in attendance. Adults (parents, guardians, volunteers, coaches, teachers, or other chaperones) must be present for the supervision of youth participants.
