About this event

Join special guest instructor Ken Ching, a longtime volunteer with UH’s Urban Garden Center, to learn the art of making cordage from natural fibers. In this hands-on class, participants will discover traditional techniques for stripping fibers and twisting them into strong, durable cordage. Perfect for anyone interested in sustainable crafting, survival skills, or cultural practices!

Instructor: Ken Ching (volunteer from the Urban Garden Center)

What to wear/bring:

  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good traction (required) You should be prepared to walk on uneven terrain.
  • Long pants (to keep mosquitoes off. Optional: a light jacket or long-sleeved outer shirt.)
  • Bug Spray (optional but recommended)
  • Water bottle (optional but recommended)

Class will be held at the downstairs Visitor Center classroom with hike through the Lyon Arboretum grounds.

P roceeds from this class go to the Lyon Arboretum Education Department.

Deadline for refunds: March 21, 2025

Refunds will not be given for tickets purchased after the refund deadline. Ticket fees cannot be transferred to other classes.
