About this event
Welcome to the first event of the Smithtown Hunt: Shoreham Hunter Pace Series at SUNY Old Westbury, Saturday, April 26, 2025 (rain date Sunday, April 27, 2025). Come join us and feel transported to a bygone era on the Gold Coast of Long Island as you ride the beautiful trails. A lovely catered lunch will be served following the ride. Whether you are a seasoned rider or beginner, this event is perfect for all levels and disciplines. Helmets are required for riders, and a negative Coggins is required for each horse. Ribbons for first through sixth place will be awarded to the teams that complete the course closest to the ideal time in each division, and reviving a tradition from prior years, an award will be presented to the best-dressed team. Don't miss out on this experience to showcase your riding skills and bond with your horse. See you there!
Registration closes at midnight on Thursday, April 24th.
First team to start at 9am; last team out by 11am. Pleasure riders encouraged to start earlier.
The Smithtown Hunt will be hosting four Hunter Paces in 2025: two in the Spring, and two in the Fall. While you can certainly compete in one or two, riders who compete in three or all four paces will have the chance to win a series end award. To qualify for the series end award, riders must compete within the same division at each pace.
Series Rules:
- Points are awarded to individual riders, not teams. Riders may ride with different teammates.
- Riders cannot cross-enter in Divisions. Riders must stay in the same Division for each Hunter Pace to qualify for that Division.
- Riders may only place in 1 Division. If a rider participates twice in the same day, the rider must claim which Division they wish to qualify before their ride.
- Year-end awards are presented to the top scoring rider/team in each Division: Hunt, Junior & Pleasure
- For the Junior Division, at least 1 rider must be 18 years of age or under.
- In order to qualify, riders must participate in 3 of the 4 Hunter Paces.
- A horse may only make 1 trip per event. No 2 riders may use the same horse in each event.
- Dress code is neat with proper attire for riding discipline practiced by the rider. Smithtown Hunt members are required to wear formal attire for all Hunter Paces taking place after formal season (Opening Hunt through Closing Hunt).
- There is a 2.5 hour limit to complete the course.
- Riders/teams not at the Start Line by 11am will not qualify to place.
- Each division will be awarded 1st place through 6th place at each event.
