As we round out National Reentry Month, please join Franklin County Office of Justice, Policy & Programs for a screening of the award-winning documentary “The Prison Within” directly followed by a panel discussion, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the historic Lincoln Theatre. The film and discussion will run from 4pm to 7pm.

This powerful documentary explores the profound impact of untreated trauma on individuals and communities through the stories of survivors of violent crime and prisoners incarcerated for murder at San Quentin prison. Through the Victim Offender Education Group (VOEG), an innovative restorative justice program, prisoners and survivors come together to confront the pain, shame, and rage caused by their past trauma. The film challenges viewers to reconsider their perceptions of incarcerated individuals, highlighting how untreated trauma perpetuates cycles of violence and affects society as a whole.

Directed by Katherin Hervey, The Prison Within offers a hopeful message of transformation, connection, and healing for both the individuals involved and the wider community.
