The People’s Open Mic - Earthseed 🌍An Ode to Octavia Butler is an evening for ✨radical imagination 🍃creating new worlds 🪐 and learning from the patterns of old ones to “ Shape Change”. ⛈️


Octavia’s literature is full of premonitions, predictions and prophesy nearly to the date of the most recent California wildfires near her home in Altadena and the election of a fascist president and more the protagonist Lauren Olamina plays an active role in navigating crisis that mirror present day that turn books like Parable of the Sower into field guides for brave futures.


Beyond Octavia’s works of fiction, she left behind notes detailing her process as a writer, offering guidance for generations of poets, writers, and thinkers to come.
