Join us for a night of stellar poetry as the top 20 competing poets from Oakland and SF Prelims advance to compete in this year's Teen Poetry Slam Semi Finals. The top 10 scoring poets will advance to finals at Brava theater on April 25th, 2025 and the highest scoring poet of the night will receive a $100 prize! Top scoring poets from finals go on to represent the Bay Area at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in July 2025!

Poetry Slams are an olympic-style competition where poets have 3 minutes and 30 seconds to rock the stage and 5 judges give it a score. The Teen Poetry Slam consists of 3 rounds — preliminary, semi-finals, and finals. The top scoring poets in each preliminary bout advance!


Frequently asked questions

Can I still sign up to slam?

Unfortunately, Semi Finals are a closed event accommodating only poets who have competed in preliminaries and scored high enough to advance. There will be opportunities to connect with other young poets at the event, as well as information about our non competitive writing and performance spaces!
