Welcome to the MateREAL Futures Symposium!
We are the MA Material Futures 2025 cohort, presenting a series of online talks to raise funds to show our work in Milan.
The materials we touch every day - our buildings, our tools carry the weight of the systems that produced them. For centuries, these systems have extracted, exploited, and discarded. But what if materials were no longer just passive resources? What if they became insurgent, challenging industry from within, dismantling waste cycles and rewriting the rules of production?
This panel unpacks the collision of radical material innovation and system disruption, asking: How can we move beyond sustainability? Our speakers are shaping new blueprints for the future of materials - where nothing is lost, and everything is reimagined.
Speakers:
Oriol Arnedos Casas - Oriol’s work seeks encounters at the interstices of the shifting realms of nature and technology. Through the development of autonomous sculptural installations, his practice takes a critical distance from the western conception of nature and crafts alternative narratives to redefine our relationship with the environment.
Maria Roy Deulofeu - Maria is a designer and researcher exploring craft that encourage more sustainable practices that link humans with the environment. Her research focuses on the issue of soil erosion, experimenting with ceramics as a way to make transparent the implications of the quality of soil.
