Frederick Chen, an 11-year-old prodigious talent, began his musical journey at age of five under the tutelage of his father, Dr. Xing Chen. By age nine, Frederick had already distinguished himself by earning the First-Class Honors with Distinction upon passing Level 10 in the Royal Conservatory of Music piano exam. His passion and dedication to music have earned him numerous accolades, including the First Prize at the prestigious Pacific Musical Society Competition and the 11th ENKOR International Music Competition. He also secured the Second Prize in the United States International Music Competition and the Second Prize at the KAMSA International Music Competition.
Frederick's musical prowess continued to shine in 2025, where he won the Gold Prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia. His talent culminated in a memorable orchestral debut, performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor with the Blue-T Concerto Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan.
Under the guidance of John McCarthy, director emeritus of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and frequent lessons with Dr. Steven Spooner at the Peabody Institute, Frederick continues to refine his craft. His dedication is further evidenced by his participation in master classes with renowned pianist Alexander Kobrin and private lessons with distinguished musicians Michelle Cann, Winston Choi, and Roberto Plano.
Beyond his musical accomplishments, Frederick is also an accomplished young athlete, he competes in the alpine ski division of the US Far West U12 league for Team Palisades Tahoe, and plays competitive soccer in the Pre-ECNL League for the Mustang Soccer Club. Off the slopes and the field, he immerses himself in world of books as an avid reader.
Frederick is in fifth grade at Amador Elementary School in Dublin, California and enrolled in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program.
