About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join us in a hands-on coastal gardening workshop at our Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center. Activities range from splitting marsh grass for restoration projects to weeding our coastal garden beds. All the while, you will be learning about the importance of various coastal plants and the species that rely on them.

Please come prepared in clothes that you are ok with getting dirty. Also, bring gardening gloves and hand shovels if you have (some will be provided, but supplies are limited).

This event counts toward community service hours!

We encourage you to register as a Back to the Bays Steward beforehand which you can do at this link. We look forward to seeing you, and thank you for your participation!

Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program has been “giving back to the bays” since 1985. As regional leaders in all aspects of coastal and marine research and restoration on Long Island, we have been able to make significant progress in enhancing the health of our local waterways. Through the Back to the Bays Initiative we work at the community level with local supporters and stewards to provide meaningful opportunities for involvement in this important work.
