Spring Tree ID

with Jonathan Marchal

Thursday, May 15  |  9:30 am - 12:30 pm

BRN - Core | BREG - Elective

Join this class as we discuss how to use different characteristics and field guides to identify common trees of Western North Carolina. Spring this year will likely be a bit different than years past for the NC Arboretum and we will venture around the property to see what trees are leafing out and enjoying the renewal of spring!

This program takes place fully outdoors. Please come prepared to walk on groomed trails and paths, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Jonathan Marchal has led outdoor ecology and recreation programming for over twenty years for youth and adults, and serves as Director of Education at the Arboretum and is the creator of ecoEXPLORE, a youth citizen science initiative. He has prior work experience with the National Park System, North Carolina State Parks and Trout Unlimited. He is an award winning, certified environmental educator and has served as the president of the Environmental Educators of North Carolina. Jonathan holds an AAS in Recreation and Wildlife Management, a BA in Ecology and a Master’s Degree in Park, Recreation and Tourism Management.
