Natural Areas Conservancy will host a Super Steward: Trail Maintainer training followed by trail marker installation on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Spring Creek Park. You are welcome to join just the training from 10am-12pm or stick around and support the trail marker installation from 12:30pm-2:30pm

If you are attending, please fill out this volunteer waiver. Note: Every attendee must fill out a waiver. If you have others joining, please ensure they fill out the waiver above as well.

Location: Corner of Gateway Drive and Erskine St (Spring Creek Park Gateway Drive & Erskine St, Brooklyn, NY 11208)

Time: 10am - 2:30pm

  • 10-12 (Trail Maintainer Training)
  • 12-12:30 (Snack Break)
  • 12:30-2:30 (Trail Marker Installation)


During this training you will learn:

  • How to navigate using Citywide Trails Team trail maps
  • How to identify and assess trail conditions
  • Ways to mitigate trail concerns
  • Plant identification and invasive/non-native species management techniques
  • Standard trail corridor dimensions & how to prune native vegetation using basic arboriculture methods
  • How to identify placement of trail markers using backward blazing protocol
  • How properly install markers on trees

What should you bring:

  • A water bottle
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Long pants
  • Sturdy, closed toe shoes


All participants are encouraged to attend the Super Steward Orientation prior to training. You can register for the Super Steward Orientation on the NYC Parks Super Steward website (there is one every month): https://www.nycgovparks.org/reg/advanced-stewardship.
