About this event

SOL in Rehoboth Beach, DE

- Smart-guided Short One-way Loop Bikeway Tour

Experience Rehoboth Beach oceanfront bikeways, boardwalks, beaches, parks and memorials, museums, beautiful trails, and more.

74% of the route is bikeways - trails, boardwalks, bike lanes, pedestrian/bike bridges; the rest is Google Maps designated "bicycle-friendly roads". This short 19-mile tour passes through several beautiful oceanside parks including Cape Henlopen State Park, Fort Miles Artillery Park, and Gordons Pond State Park area.

Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk is a unique cycling opportunity, but it comes with seasonal bike and dog restrictions - "bikes are allowed on the boardwalk only from 5-10 am May 15-September 15. Dogs are prohibited from the beach and boardwalk May 1-September 30." Making an early start to the smart-guided tour gets you on the boardwalk for a relaxing ride and off in time to miss the peak pedestrian traffic.

Passing through Cape Henlopen State Park the tour route runs through history-rich Fort Miles Artillery Park. The World War II conflict is memorialized with several outdoor artillery artifacts, a museum, and numerous preserved batteries and lookout towers throughout the park.

Are you into beach biking or simply biking to the beach for sunbathing and a swim? Then remember to bring along a towel and beach essentials. The multiple beaches in Sussex County are along some of the cleanest waters in America. "The U.S. Natural Resources Defense Council gave its highest five-star rating for ocean water quality to Sussex County beaches and ranked them cleanest among the 30 U.S. coastal states". On the list along this tour route are Rehoboth Beach, Whiskey Beach, Deauville Beach, Cape Henlopen State Park Beach, Gordon's Pond Beach, North Shores Beach, Johnnie Walker Beach, and Savannah Beach.

Being known as "The Nation's Summer Capital" makes being well-equipped to satisfy visitors a mandate. Besides the CycleNuts suggested endpoint tasty stop (revealed with ticket) there are numerous other spots along the route to imbibe at will or satiate one's appetite. Overnight accommodations are plentiful, as well.

Easily, anywhere along the way, the tour can be detoured to nearby points of interest. This smart-guided route comes with CycleNuts' 50% downhill guarantee. Sweating is optional. If your bike has gears, you might use them to ease your way through the unpredictable invisible hills - also known as the wind. All bikes are appropriate for this smart-guided tour (even a single-speed if you do not mind the invisible hills mentioned). The route is shaded about 25% of the way. Sweating is optional (but probably unavoidable considering the oceanfront humidity) - you set your pace, starting time, and touring agenda.

Cycle tourists looking for a short destination bikeway tour along the oceanfront will love this adventure. Bike campers and bikepackers can overnight at Cape Henlopen State Park Campground along the tour route. Beach hunters will find no shortage of oceanfront property to lay out in the sun. Boardwalk enthusiasts might park their bikes for the day to explore the numerous attractions along Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, including Funland - a small amusement park and arcade. Bikefishing is chock full of opportunities in this area - "with so many fish around, beginners can practice their angling skills, while there’s also the chance to go after some true monsters for avid anglers." Marshland seekers should enjoy the coastal saltwater serenity of Gordons Pond Wildlife Area. These points of interest and more are on this SOL smart-guided tour!
