About this event

  • Event lasts 8 hours

Welcome to Passport to Learning Homeschool Days at Shelburne Museum! We are offering two dates to choose from: Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 27.

Passport to Learning offers school groups a variety of guided and self-guided workshops located across the Museum grounds. Students will rotate through a selection of interactive, hands-on workshops throughout the day. This standards-based, cross-curricular experience will enhance students’ understanding of social studies, art, and science. The combination of guided and self-guided activities allows for choice and flexibility throughout the day to meet the needs and interests of your students.

Please note that while this event page says the event is free, there is an admission fee that will be paid upon arrival.

Admission will be $5 per student ages 5-17. One adult per family is admitted free. Additional adults per family are $5 each. Children ages 0-4 are free. Admission fees will be collected upon arrival.

We are committed to making Shelburne Museum learning experiences accessible to all. Please reach out if you need assistance covering admission fees.

Registered participants will receive more detailed information about what to expect, check-in procedure, educational resources, etc. about one month before this event.

Frequently asked questions

What if I want to visit the Museum, but I can't make it to one of the Homeschool Day events?

You are welcome to visit at any time as a Self-Guided visitor! Whenever you visit, you can just check in with the Admissions team in the Museum Store and let them know you are a homeschooling family.

What are the admission fees if I want to do a Self-Guided visit?

Admission fees are $5 per student (ages 5 and up). One adult per family is admitted free. Additional adults per family are $5 each. Please note that the $5 admission fee only applies during the months that public schools are open, and not during the summer vacation months.

Is there also financial assistance available for Self-Guided visits?

We are committed to making Shelburne Museum learning experiences accessible to all. Please reach out education@shelburnemuseum.org if you need assistance covering admission fees.

Can I do the Passport to Learning activities during a Self-Guided visit?

Passport to Learning activities are only available to students who are registered to participate in Passport to Learning. However, there are resources available to support Self-Guided visitors on our Educational Resources webpage: https://shelburnemuseum.org/learn/educational-resources/

Will there be a waitlist if the event "sells out"?

Yes! You can choose to add yourself to the waitlist here on Eventbrite. We will contact you via email if any spots open up for you.

Why are the tickets divided into 3 options: Child age 0-4, Child age 5-14, Adult 15+?

Since this program is designed for students in grades K-8, indicating the number of students within that grade band will let us know how many attendees are participating in the program, and how many are here to support the participants.

What are the arrival times that I can choose from?

The arrival time options are: 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 10:30 a.m.

Why do I need to select a timeslot?

Selecting an arrival time and arriving at the chosen time will ensure an efficient check-in and orientation process.

Why is 10:30 am the latest timeslot I can choose from?

Since our last guided workshop begins at 1:30, we want to ensure that participants arrive at the Museum early enough to attend a variety of workshops. If the timing of the event does not work well for you and your group, we encourage you to consider a Self-Guided visit instead.

What are the times that the guided workshops will be available?

The guided workshops will run on the half-hour and hour, beginning at 9:30 am. The last workshop will take place from 1:30 pm until 2pm. You are welcome to stay as long as you would like after the workshops end! The Museum is open until 5pm.

What if my plans change and I can no longer attend?

We understand! Email Sara Wolfson at swolfson@shelburnemuseum.org to let us know as soon as you can so we can offer the opening to the next person on the waitlist.

When my group attends a workshop, will we be joined with other families?

You will likely be joined by other families. Our workshops can accommodate 10-15 students, depending on the workshop. That said, if you are attending as a small group, you will likely be joined by other groups.

I am wondering about what the guided workshops will be, what to bring, etc. How can I learn more?

We will send you more detailed information covering these topics and many more approximately one month before the event! Thank you for your patience.

If I need to contact someone at Shelburne Museum about the event, who should I reach out to?

You can reach out to Sara Wolfson, School and Youth Programs Educator, at education@shelburnemuseum.org or 802-985-0922.
