Welcome to the Shasta College Creative Writing Festival! Join us for a day that celebrates inspiration, creativity, and the joy of storytelling. Whether you're an aspiring or seasoned writer, this event is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their writing skills and share the power and joy of language with other writers.

Immerse yourself in creative writing workshops led by Shasta College faculty and staff, participate in the open mic session to share your own work, learn about Shasta College creative writing and literature courses, and engage in discussions on all things writing. Don't miss this opportunity to ignite your passion for writing and be a part of our local literary community!

Saturday, April 5th: Creative Writing Festival Workshops and Open Mic in 1100 Bldg (Math)

Saturday Schedule (tentative--check back two weeks prior to event for updates and session locations in 1100 bldg):

9:30-10 a.m.: Meet and Greet in 1100 (Math Bldg) hallway. Coffee and pastries provided.

10-11:30: Guest poet Mai Der Vang leads poetry workshop

10-10:50: Concurrent sessions by SC faculty and staff

  • Kimberly Calrson--the novel
  • Robb Lightfoot--humor writing

11-11:50: Concurrent sessions by SC faculty and staff

  • Jessica Fletcher--drama (storytelling)
  • Katie Posey--creative nonfiction
  • Sara McCurry--poetry

12-1: Lunch Break (food provided OR on your own--stay tuned)

1-2: Concurrent sessions by SC faculty and staff

  • Sharon Brisolara--poetry
  • Jim Dyar--songwriting
  • Kylee Duran-Cox--writing for personal growth

2:15-3:30: Concluding remarks after workshops and open mic for poems, micro-fiction, and songs



Park in the Sycamore parking lot on the east side of campus under the solar panels, then continue to the math building (1100 bldg) for the Festival!
