Sharpen My Pen – Elevating Writers, Strengthening Community
Sharpen My Pen is more than just an open mic—it’s a writer’s workshop disguised as a performance space, where poets and storytellers sharpen their craft through raw expression, constructive feedback, and community engagement.
Curated by Slightwork Events and Sharp Pens, this monthly poetry open mic provides a supportive yet challenging environment where writers leave better than they arrived. The goal is simple: helping artists refine their words, deepen their delivery, and grow as performers while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
How It Works
1. Sign up at the door to hit the mic.
2. Perform any piece—memorized, read from paper, or your phone.
3. No disclaimers! No explaining, just deliver your work with confidence.
4. Receive constructive feedback from two “Sharpeners” (seasoned poets designated to critique performances).
5. After all poets perform and receive feedback, we open the mic for an organic freestyle session where the night flows naturally.
Entry:
• Enigma Private Lounge Members – Free
• Non-Members – $5
• Show a book purchased from a local poet for free entry (supporting authors in the community).
Sharpen My Pen x Healing Through Art
Sharpen My Pen aligns directly with The Enigma Nonprofit’s Healing Through Art initiative, which is rooted in the belief that art is a tool for personal and collective healing.
