About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join us as we help the Friends of Dunns Creek State Park with its annual Bartram Frolic celebrating 18th century naturalist William Bartram and his paddling of Dunns Creek!

We’ll be celebrating Bartram’s journey with a tram ride and a bird walk. To learn more about Bartram, visit this link: https://bartramtrailconference.wildapricot.org.

One bird that Bartram never reported was the endemic Florida Scrub Jays and the Park has them! Park Ranger Anthony Vera has arranged for us to take the Park’s tram to the find them and learn about the Park’s Scrub Jay Program!

To participate in this adventure, you will park at the Day Use Area at the end of the two-mile paved Main Park Drive off of Sisco Road. We’ll meet at this parking lot and board the tram promptly at 8:00 AM.

When the tram returns a little after 9:00 AM, we have a restroom break. One of our Bird Walk Leaders will lead a bird walk (on foot) on a Park trail to find as many of the 65 species recorded on eBird for the area as we can. According to eBird, in April we may be able to spot Great Crested Flycatchers, vireos, Bachman’s Sparrows, Eastern Towhees, Northern Parulas, and Summer Tanagers.

This link will take you to the eBird list for the Park: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L5543224.
