**Did you know? There are more than 30 school board seats up for election in Spartanburg County this fall.**
This training will be from 10AM to 2PM on Saturday, May 31. Lunch will be provided, along with a complimentary copy of “8 Things to Know About Running for School Board”!
**Please Note** The Primer will take place in SCC's Health Sciences Building, in room HSB 115. See the image below for directions!
Candidate Training Agenda:
“Welcome” with Bryce Fiedler, director of CALN
Bryce will introduce our speakers and share a word about CALN’s mission to support reform-minded school board members as they endeavor to refocus education around students’ academic needs.
"8 Things to Know About Running for School Board" with author Dave Trabert
Learn from the author of “8 Things to Know About Running for School Board” as he helps candidates develop persuasive communication skills and empowers them as leaders for improving student achievement in South Carolina.
Dave will cover the realities of modern academic outcomes, district finance 101, how to build a student-focused system, effective governance whether in the majority or minority, and being a faithful representative of your community’s needs. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the lessons in his book and how to make a difference in your district.
Dave Trabert is the CEO of Kansas Policy Institute, where he also does research and writes on fiscal policy and education issues. He is the lead author of three books: Giving Kids a Fighting Chance with School Choice, What was Really the Matter with the Kansas Tax Plan, and 8 Things to Know about Running for School Board. His other published works include “A Five-Year Budget Plan for the State of Kansas,” “Student-Focused Funding Solutions for Public Education,” and “Removing Barriers to Better Public Education.” He was an appointed member of the Kansas K-12 Student Achievement and Efficiency Commission, and he also co-chairs the Education Finance Joint Working Group for the American Legislative Exchange Council.
