About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join TennGreen staff member Nichole Hidalgo Jordan and Board Member Michael Mauritz for a 5-mile out-and-back hike through the breathtaking Savage Gulf wilderness—a perfect opportunity to log some miles for TennGreen's fifth annual Hike-A-Thon! Our adventure will follow the Collins Gulf Trail to Suter Falls, a stunning cascading waterfall, and Horsepound Falls, a beautiful free-flowing waterfall. Along the way, we’ll explore dramatic rock shelters, rugged bluffs, and high overlooks offering scenic views of the Collins River. TennGreen and its partners recently helped conserve nearly 650 acres along the southeastern boundary of this spectacular landscape. Don’t miss this chance to experience its beauty firsthand!

Please wear closed-toed shoes, weather-appropriate attire, bring lunch/snacks, and plenty of water. Consider bringing a hiking stick.

Michael Mauritz is an avid hiker and can answer most questions anyone has about Savage Gulf and it's trail system. Nichole is a former environmental educator and has general knowledge of Tennessee's native flora and fauna.

MISSION

TennGreen Land Conservancy’s mission is to conserve land where people and nature can thrive.

WHAT WE DO

Through sound science and partnerships, TennGreen Land Conservancy identifies and conserves land across Tennessee for wildlife corridors, critical habitat, and public benefit. TennGreen Land Conservancy protects, cares for, and connects people with Tennessee’s natural world by providing meaningful outdoor experiences, establishing conservation easements, supporting restoration efforts, and acquiring (or assisting in the acquisition of) privately-held land.

WHY PROTECT LAND?

Tennessee is known for its extraordinary beauty from the mighty Mississippi to the Great Smoky Mountains. Our rich forests, farms, and wetlands are not only our home but also home to a vast diversity of fish and wildlife. Tennessee is experiencing extreme human development pressure, and every missed opportunity to protect our unique lands is an irreversible loss to our future. We must act swiftly and smartly to protect the places that provide us all well-being and an unrivaled quality of life.

The future of our land, water, and wildlife depends on our attitudes and actions today. Our natural world needs us. There are many ways you can get involved. Click here to take action now!
