For Initial Trainees: Class 1 and the In Person Class must be taken sequentially. Sign up for a Class 1 as close as possible to the In Person Class in your state, but at a maximum 3 months before the In Person date. Your annual certification expiration date will be from your Class 1 date, and the In Person Class dates in each states will remain relatively consistent, so scheduling as close as possible to that date will minimize the duration of any lapse in certification.

For Re-certification Trainees: Sign up for an In Person training date in your state closest to your annual certification expiration date. This may be slightly before or after your certification expiration date (but, if after, will be within your 3-month grace period to be eligible to take a Re-certification Class).
