Rockburn Land Trust Bird Walk

Join us for a fun and educational Bird Walk in the beautiful Lawyers Hill Historic District! This in-person event will begin at the Elkridge Assembly Rooms. Grab your binoculars, birding apps, and comfortable shoes as we explore the diverse bird species that call this area home. Coffee, donuts, and sign-in at 7:30 am. The walk begins at 8:00. It will cover roughly 1 mile of gentle terrain, and take 1 hour.

Parking is across the street on the grass to the left of the driveway.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an experienced birder?

No. There will be a knowledgeable guide.

What should I bring?

Binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and a field guide or a mobile device with the eBird app.

What will we see?

The walk goes through mature upland forest and suburban yards. Likely birds in mid-April are cardinals, blue Jays, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, sparrows, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, crows, robins, and bluebirds.

How rough is the path? Is it ADA accessible?

The walk is mostly on a maintained path through a protected forest. There are a couple gentle slopes, and a brief side excursion through a new not-yet-developed public park. It is not ADA accessable.

How long is the walk?

It's about 1 mile, and it will take about 1 hour.

What is the Rockburn Land Trust?

The Rockburn Land Trust (RLT) works with land owners and residents in the Patapsco Valley Watershed to achieve protected land conservation for future generations. The bird walk goes through Bonniewood, a historic private residence on a parcel protected by an RLT-monitored conservation easement.
