Outdoor survival situations are almost always unexpected. Join the Wallkill Valley Land Trust to learn the basics to survive in the winter outdoors on Saturday, February 22nd. This workshop will touch on key skills and knowledge that could be vital should a dangerous and life-threatening situation occur, and how to avoid getting into a situation in the first place. Knowing and understanding basic survival strategies could be key to save your life and the lives of others. Children 10 and above are welcome with an adult.
The Workshop will be led by Michael Drillinger, a DEC-licensed New York State hiking and camping guide and a member of the New York State Outdoor Guides Association. He was a Boy Scout and has led scout and other groups on camping trips. Drillinger has a degree in Environmental Science, and is an avid student of local history. Michael has been hiking the trails and camping in the forests of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Preserve for many years and has worked with a number of locally-based land trusts. Leading with Michael will be Matt Helffrich who is also a DEC-licensed guide. Matt is an outdoor educator who has worked for nature organizations in Maryland, Massachusetts, here in the Hudson Valley at the Ashokan Center, and Cornell Cooperative Extension in Ulster County.

This program will be held rain or shine. In the case of extreme cold or heavy snow the program will be canceled.
