Workshop Description:

Join Anderson Pickens County Stormwater Partners and water resources professionals to learn how to maintain a rain garden! The Rain Garden Maintenance workshop will provide participants with education and hands-on learning for maintaining a rain garden. The workshop will include a classroom portion covering rain garden design, inspections, and general maintenance. An outdoor portion will also help bring two rain gardens back to life at the Pickens Extension Office!


Participants must dress to weed, prune, and potentially plant in a rain garden. Please wear clothes that can be washed with closed-toed shoes. A hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle are also recommended. Gloves and tools will be provided. Snacks will also be provided throughout the morning.

9:30 AM - 10:00 AM Rain Garden Overview and Wildlife Enhancements

10:00 AM - 10:15 AM Rain Garden Sustainability

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM Site Assessment & Inspection

10:30 AM - 12:30 AM Hands-on maintenance:

  • Pulling weeds
  • Removing unwanted or overgrown plants
  • Reshaping the berm
  • Inlet and outlet adjustments
  • Add new plants
  • Add mulch
  • Cistern and rain barrel maintenance
  • Installation of wildlife enhancements
