Did you know Deception Pass was once covered in a massive glacier? Join staff for a hike to the summit of Goose Rock to explore how glaciers have shaped our park and the unique wildflowers that grow in this post-glacial ecosystem. This hike is a roughly 1-mile out and back with 380ft elevation gain. Surfaces include stairways and dirt trail. The hike is expected to take 1.5 hours with a 20-minute return hike back to the parking lot. This hike is not stroller accessible or ADA. 

If all spots are full, or there are not enough tickets for your party, please contact staff at DeceptionPass.Interpreter@parks.wa.gov to be placed on the waitlist.

Frequently asked questions

What is a guided hike?

A guided hike is a staff-led hike along park trails. Expect multiple educational stops along the way to learn all about the unique topic for the month.

How many tickets do I need?

Each attendee must have their own ticket. However, children under the age of four do not need their own ticket. (ie. if your party is 2 adults and 1 child under 4, you will only need 2 tickets). Please note that this trail is not stroller accessible or ADA.

Do I need a Discover Pass?

Yes, you will need a Discover Pass for vehicle access and parking.

Are all of the hikes this month the same?

Yes, all hikes in a given month will be on the same trail and present the same content. Interested in other hike topics? Each month, the location and topic change, so we encourage you to sign-up for one hike each month to attend them all!

What gear should I bring?

Bring sturdy shoes, appropriate layers, snacks, and water.

How will I know if the hike is cancelled due to weather?

Hikes will be presented rain or shine! In the case of high winds or snowy/icy conditions, participants will be emailed about event cancellation.
