Shades of Green Permaculture Hosts Volunteer Day at ArtsXchange
to Launch Year-Long Regenerative Landscape Project
Gain Permaculture Skills, Enrich Soil Health, and Help Create an Ecological Garden on April 26th at 10 AM EST
Who: Shades of Green Permaculture (SOG) and ArtsXchange
What: Shades of Green Permaculture is offers a Community Giveback Program to implement a regenerative landscape design for ArtsXchange, a fully integrated artist colony and community arts center in Atlanta. Developed pro bono by SOG, the design resolves significant drainage issues while creating a vibrant, sustainable space filled with medicinal and beneficial plants, aligning with ArtsXchange’s mission of building community and elevating Black artists and urban agriculture. volunteers will help remove landscape fabric, turn woodchips, plant cover crops, and stabilize soil in preparation for future volunteer days and phases, such as installing a water system, rain gardens, and planting fruit trees, herbs, berries, perennials, and cut flowers. Tenisio Seanima, ArtsXchange’s farmer and a leader in Atlanta’s urban agriculture, will guide volunteers, including members of a local church committed to participating. Why: The day Earth Day opportunity of service and community building, reflecting the shared values of ArtsXchange and SOG in fostering collective action and empowerment. This collaboration underscores SOG’s dedication to giving back, as demonstrated by its commitment to investing at least 1% of annual revenue in community-focused initiatives. ArtsXchange, a cornerstone of Atlanta’s Black arts community for over 40 years, continues to champion creativity and connection through its gallery, programming, and community garden. This project pays tribute to founder Alice Lovelace’s vision by cultivating a vibrant flower garden and welcoming gathering space for all.
