THE JOURNEY TO #BRINGBARLEY HOME

Barley, my gluten-detection pup, was born on November 8, and she has already started training. She’s learning to sit, stay, and lay down and has been introduced to the smell of gluten. To teach her to recognize gluten, they are starting my little girl with all-purpose flour. Saying I’m excited is an understatement, but you can also add nervousness, hesitation, and impatience.

You see, to receive Barley after the intense 18-month training process, I will have to pay $50,000. While this is a lot of money, having the peace and safety of knowing when gluten is present in the air, on people, and in products will be worth it. Best deal ever!

However, because of my severe gluten allergy, I need to spend the next year focused on fundraising while still maintaining some isolation. After praying and talking to trusted advisors and mentors, I’ve felt led to let go of my design business, Owl Simply Design. While I will still do some small projects for family and friends, the formal business will dissolve. (I will keep the website and email for the foreseeable future.) The plan is to blog about my experience, getting back to writing consistently while fundraising to share my journey.
