Phat Tire Bike Shop Bike Camping Ride

What: Join Phat Tire for two days of riding with an overnight camping stay at a nearby campsite outside of Gravette AR.

When: April 12th and 13th

Where: starting and finishing at the downtown Bentonville Phat Tire Bike Shop

Time: Plan to be rolling out at 11AM on Saturday Details: Have you been wanting to give bike camping a try? Do you have a bike and some basic camping essentials but not quite ready to invest in bike camping specific gear? Then this is your chance to give this bike camping thing a try.

Phat Tire will be transporting what camping gear you have and will need for this event so you don’t have to go out and purchase a bunch of stuff. Plus you’ll get to see what other bike campers are using for their adventures and how it benefits them when out exploring.

Day 1 will be a leisurely paced, 40 mile, bike ride to the Terra Rose campgrounds. Once we arrive you will have access to your camping/cooking gear and we will enjoy an evening of community among friends.

Day 2, Sunday morning, we will depart once we are all packed up and head back to the bike shop (earlier the better though).

Day 2 will be a 30 mile route back. What you’ll need: A bicycle (duh) in good working condition able to safely navigate paved and gravel roads.

Camping gear appropriate for the weather conditions.

Nutrition not only for the ride but also for dinner at the conclusion of Day 1 and breakfast of some type for the morning of day 2.

Things to bear in mind: Bike camping is inherently a self supported activity and we are trying to simulate the riding conditions you would encounter while enjoying this form of cycling. We will be pacing at a seemingly slow pace, maybe a 10-11mph average.

What ever you can carry on your bike you should so that you get some idea of what a fully laden bike feels like. You will need to supply your own nutrition and water (we may have a few things) but again bike camping is a self sufficient thing. Some suggestions include freeze dried meals like Mountain Home or Peak Refuel that can be heated up with some hot water (easy peasy). Or pack a small cooler with food items that can be transported in the van out to the camp site. You should have the ability to adequately address any mechanical issues you may encounter which is mainly fixing a flat tire. This adventure is going to be a fun, laid back, learning event in which we hope you will come back excited to continue exploring the world of bike camping and setting out on your own epic adventures prepared and ready.
