Starting in Glen Park and ending at Alemany Farm, we’ll visit the new Burnside Mural and tiled steps, the Glen Park Greenway, Bernal Cut, and Alemany Farm, with many hidden treasures along the way.

Walk Leader: Helen Doyle

Helen Doyle, nature lover and educator, serves on Nature in the City’s advisory council and on the steering committee for Reimagining San Francisco. She also represents Nature in the City on the Crosstown Trails Coalition and is a docent at the SF Botanical Garden, Año Nuevo State Park, and Alcatraz Historic Gardens She loves to explore nature in the City with like-minded people.

Details:

Learn how community members are helping nature and people thrive by creating public gardens that mitigate the impact of transportation infrastructure around them. Explore hidden alleys, murals, and native plants and wildlife in these charming neighborhoods.

The walk from Glen Park to Alemany Farm is about 2 miles with 500 foot total elevation gain. The leader will walk back to Glen Park more directly with anyone who wants to join. The terrain will mostly be sidewalks or compacted trails, with some stairs. This route follows a section of the Crosstown Trail.

Preparation:

Wear comfortable walk shoes and layers. Bring water and a snack, and something to share at Alemany Farm if you want to stick around for a few minutes after the walk.

Meeting Locations:

Meet in the plaza of the Glen Park BART Station at the circular benches.

Transportation and Parking:

This is a transit-centric walk, with an easy starting location at the Glen Park BART Station. From the end point at Alemany Farm, it is a 20 minute walk back to the BART station. There are also several Muni lines that connect back to Glen Park.

Parking near Glen Park: Note the 4-hour limit in most areas.

Heavy rain will cancel. We will email participants the morning of walk if we cancel.
