Guided walks led by a professional naturalist are hosted at Leopold's Preserve one weekend per month, year-round. These walks are free and open to all. The walks are slow paced and typically cover two miles or less. Each month's walk focuses on a different seasonal topic related to the natural world.


Sunday, April 13, 10AM: Spring Birds & Blooms. Join us to take in the early spring wildflowers display and to get prepared for the spring bird migration.


Presented through a partnership of Bull Run Mountains Conservancy and the White House Farm Foundation.

Leopold's Preserve is a 380-acre park located in Haymarket, Virginia, about 30 miles west of Washington, DC. The Preserve features a 7-mile trail system that allows visitors to explore diverse habitats, scenic overlooks, and historic sites. Our trails are free to access and open to the public every day from dawn until dusk. Leopold's Preserve is a popular location for hiking, running, bird watching, plein air painting, forest bathing, and other outdoor activities. It has earned recognition as a top wildlife-watching spot from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and sees more than 10,000 visits annually.

Leopold's Preserve is privately owned and managed by the White House Farm Foundation (WHFF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation with a focus on conservation and education. WHFF sponsors frequent educational and volunteer programs at Leopold's Preserve, including guided hikes, homeschool programs, volunteer cleanups, and more.
