About this event
This is a Surfcasting Striped Bass Catch & Release Challenge only. Please don’t come back to me with a fish and tell me it's legal and you kept it. Once again, this is a Surfcasting Striped Bass CATCH & RELEASE Challenge only!
Registration is $175 online here on Eventbrite. In-person Day of Challenge is cash only and will be $190.
Mr & Mrs Poseidon will be at Lighthouse lower parking lot Thurs, Fri & Sat from 7:00 am until 11:00 am for registrants to check in and pick up their materials needed to compete! If you are arriving at any other time, please call me at 917-567-3105 to get your materials and be checked-in to compete.

1st Prize Winner also receives CUSTOM CHAMPION JACKET with MSC Champion Logo with your name and year won embroidered on it. Also the large Montauk Striper Challenge Logo on the back and 30+ brand logo patches all over the body and sleeves! If you're a surfcaster, you're gonna want this jacket on your back! This is an authentic hooded letterman varsity wool and leather quilted lined jacket! Lining will show custom-printed photos of the Champion!

There will be 2 other Challenges held at Hither Hills on Fri. Oct 17th, 1st Prize for the Longest Cast is $2,000 and 1st Prize for the Most Accurate Cast is $1,000.

* * There are no exceptions. You cannot pick up a friend's bonus box, period. Also, if you are sick or cannot attend for ANY reason, I am very sorry but you will NOT receive a Bonus Box. This is to be FAIR to other registered attendees. Any boxes not picked up in person by the registrant will be given away on Mr Poseidon's weekly Livestream only on YouTube, Sundays at 7:00 pm ET.
RULES and REGULATIONS:
Rules on Most Accurate Cast (10 am to 12 noon):
~ You must have a clip at the end of your line for us to make a quick connection to a bucktail rated at 1 oz. (Bring correct equipment to handle what you know is right for yourself.)
~ No breakaway cannon or line holding mechanism other than your finger allowed
~ No conventional rods allowed
~ Rods up to 11 feet are allowed
~ Use only 40# and up braided or mono line
Rules on Longest Cast (1 pm to 3 pm):
~ You must have a clip at the end of your line for us to make a quick connection to a pencil popper rated at 3 oz. (Bring correct equipment to handle what you know is right for yourself.)
~ No breakaway cannon or line holding mechanism other than your finger allowed
~ No conventional rods allowed
~ Rods up to 11 feet are allowed
~ Use only 40# and up braided or mono line
RULES and REGULATIONS on STRIPED BASS and Photo Submission:
~ Length measured from tip of snout to tip of tail in inches.
~ Fishing Challenge begins Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 8:00 am and ends on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 3:00 pm
~ You must send Mr Poseidon at 917-567-3105 a PHOTO showing YOUR FACE and Striper with required ruler given to you in your Bonus Box and your identifying color registration wrist band for confirmation. (See example photo below).
~ Picture must be sent immediately and clearly show ruler from tip of snout to tip of tail. Ruler will have large numbers to identify length of fish. Numbers must be seen clearly in your photo. Also show your color wrist band and your face in the same photo as the fish.
~ Photo must be received by 3:00 pm Saturday, October 18, 2025 to be eligible. Anything received after that will not be accepted.
~ Registrants may enter as many fish as they like however only your largest fish by length wins.
~ Must fish with one or more registered buddies. This is a must! Cannot fish alone ever!
~ No wading beyond your waist. No swimming or skishing out to rocks! This is for your protection. If you are reported to me with photographic proof, I will call you and you WILL be disqualified.
~ Fishing areas include Montauk and only from the surf.
~ Please bring your own bait, lures, etc. to catch your Striped Bass.
~ Refer to current Marine Digest for Saltwater Fishing Regulations (even though this is a Catch & Release only challenge.)
~ Registration fee allows you to fish and submit photos for the three days and is per individual, meaning one person per registration entry.
~ Must possess valid NY Recreational Marine Fishing Registry which can be obtained free at https://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6101.html or by phone at 866-933-2257. When making a phone transaction, a confirmation number will be given to you that can be used as valid proof of your fishing or marine registry. Marine Registry from Connecticut or Rhode Island is valid in NY.
~ Mr Poseidon has all final decision authority on all matters related to this Challenge, rules and winners.
~ The Challenge is a Rain or Shine event. Registration fees are non-refundable.
~ You must age 18 and over to register and compete
~ 1st through 20th Prize Winners of the Challenge to be announced at Awards Night party where drawings will also take place. 1st Prize Winner will NOT be eligible to win the VS X-2 Series reels but will be eligible for other drawing prizes. This is to give others a chance at winning a nice prize.
~ ALL Prize winners must be present at Awards Night party to claim prize and you must be present to win any of the drawing prizes or you forfeit. There are NO EXCEPTIONS!

Mr Poseidon's Montauk Striper Challenge is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all tournament participants.
Mr Poseidon and the Montauk Striper Challenge (MSC) value all tournament attendees and participants and is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all. All participants, including, but not limited to, anglers, attendees, volunteers, staff and others are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct.
Expected Behaviors:
- Treat all anglers, attendees, volunteers and staff with respect and consideration.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing behavior and speech directed toward other anglers, participants, volunteers, staff.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow anglers. Alert staff if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.
Unacceptable Behaviors:
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form is unacceptable. Harassment includes speech or behavior that is not welcome or is personally offensive. Behavior that is acceptable to one person may not be acceptable to another, so use discretion to be sure respect is communicated. Harassment intended in a joking manner still constitutes unacceptable behavior. Regardless of your intent, if you are advised directly or by another party that some aspect of your speech or behavior at a MSC event is harassment, you are expected to stop engaging in such speech or behavior.
- Do not physically or verbally abuse any angler, attendee, speaker, volunteer, MSC staff member or other event guest.
- Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to, unwelcome or offensive verbal comments related to age, appearance, or body size, employment or military status, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, individual lifestyle, marital status, national origin, physical or cognitive ability, political affiliation, sexual orientation, race, or religion. Harassment can also include the use of sexual and/or discriminatory images in public spaces or in presentations; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks; bullying behavior; inappropriate physical contact; and unwanted sexual attention.
- Appropriate and responsible personal use of photographs or posts to social media of another individual’s oral presentation, poster, or likeness is acceptable unless permission is specifically denied by the individual.
- Any retaliation against participants for reporting unacceptable behavior is unacceptable. Like harassment or discrimination, retaliation against reporting poor behavior will be subject to consequences.
Reporting Unacceptable Behavior:
- Anyone experiencing or witnessing behavior that constitutes an immediate or serious threat to public safety at any time should contact local law enforcement (by calling 911) and immediately notifying Mr Poseidon without delay.
- If you are not in immediate danger but feel that you are the subject of unacceptable behavior, you are encouraged to let Mr Poseidon know.
Consequences:
- Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
- Consequences to unacceptable behavior will be determined by Mr Poseidon
- Consequences for anglers or anyone attending the MSC event, may include one or more of the following actions:
- Angler disqualification from the tournament without refund
- Angler exclusion from any future Mr Poseidon event for five (5) years
- Angler’s forfeiture of any prizes awarded including but not limited to cash and trophies (champion jacket)
- If the offense is criminal, local law enforcement will be contacted.
Finally ... BE SAFE and BE COURTEOUS to others and HAVE A GREAT TIME!

A n example of correct photo submission. Clearly show your face, the wristband and the measurement of the whole fish next to ruler. Remember, I cannot accept any photos without these 3 requirements. This will require you fish with a partner so he can take the picture.
