Frequently asked questions

I am flying in from out of state, what times do I need to book flights for?

If your youth is traveling from out of state, book their flights to arrive in Albuquerque, NM on July 7th between 11:00-2:00 PM and to depart July 11th after 12:00 PM

What will we eat?

All meals and snacks are provided and prepared by TVF and NMRA Staff. Expect lots of yummy meals with epic views!

Where do I go to the bathroom?

I have included this question because our bathroom situation tends to be a little shocking to first timers. We use a contraption called "the groover" , which when simplified is an ammo can with a toilet seat. This system is exclusive to our time on the river, and makes for a great story!

What if I don't have any river gear?

New Mexico River Adventures is able to provide rental gear to make sure you are 100% river ready!

Am I able to bring my phone?

No, we will collect cell phones at the beginning of the trip. We believe in the power of disconnecting on these expeditions, plus there is no cell service in the canyon. Cameras will be available to photo taking, and youth are welcome to bring cameras of their own (as long as its waterproof!)

What if there is an emergency?

TVF and NMRA staff have Wilderness First Responder certifications and will have satellite phones to contact emergency services if needed. Parents/Guardians will not be receiving updates on our expedition, so no news is good news. Exceptions may include travel logistics to and from pickup locations.

Where do campers sleep?

We will be sleeping under the stars most nights if the weather permits. Camps will be set up daily on the banks of the river, so expect lots of sand!
