About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Marion Phelps’ (1908-2013) contributions to local history and heritage preservation are legendary in Brome and Missisquoi Counties. After retiring from teaching in 1962, she volunteered for the Brome County Historical Society archives for more than four decades. From behind her desk, she worked tirelessly to preserve the history of Brome and Missisquoi Counties and helped countless researchers who entered through the archives’ doors. Local history expert and former student of Miss Phelps, Jim Manson, will guide us through her contributions and share his memories of her.

A reception and “Marion Phelps Open-Mic” will follow where attendees will be invited to share their favourite anecdotes and memories of Miss Phelps.

This QAHN Heritage Talk is sponsored by the Zeller Family Foundation, Canadian Heritage, and the Townshippers Foundation.

Jim Manson is a Professor of History at Champlain College of Vermont and the author of four books about Eastern Townships history. He has taught history in Jamaica, the United States, and Canada. For the past twenty-four years, he has given a popular annual lecture series in honour of Marion Phelps for the Brome County Historical Society. His other passions include sports and music. He lives in Cowansville, QC.
