Join Detroit Bird Alliance trip leaders Jim Bull and Bruce Szczechowski, both very knowledgeable and eagle-eyed birders, during The Biggest Week in American Birding at Magee Marsh, one of THE best sites in North America to see warblers and other songbird migrants—sometimes up close and personal. The Biggest Week in American Birding is a 10 day festival in northwest Ohio, "The Warbler Capital of the World!"
Magee Marsh, situated on the southern shore of Lake Erie, is a prime stopover for North American Warblers during spring migration. This is a great opportunity to have expert Detroit Bird Alliance birders as your guide to identify the many species of warblers that visit Magee Marsh. In recent years we have also had nesting Bald Eagles, Herons, Woodcock, and Screech Owls. We will be walking on about a one mile boardwalk. Get there early or you may have to park far away.
PARKING - We will meet at the West end of the parking lot for the Magee Marsh Boardwalk. There are "port-o-johns" in the parking lot.
After birding on the Magee Marsh boardwalk the group will caravan to the Magee Marsh Visitor Center for some shopping and a walk around the nature trails located there. The group will then caravan to the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and possibly other spots along the Lake Erie shore for further birding opportunities.
