Listening for Revision

Let's get acquainted!

As for Life, As for Writing

• The what – what are we working on • The how – our ways into (and out of) or writing • The why – the motive, compulsion, drive, purpose • The who – who is our audience? • The when – to (re) approach...

The Archaeological Dig

Developing an understanding of our own pattens and navigational tools, how did we get from there to here, or here to there, discerning habits, rhythms, music, language - and our attentions throughout...

Approaches to Revision

Listening to what the poem is telling us, the poem is finished (for me) when...creating artificial constrains / parameters toward completion

The Elements

Verb tenses / point of view, creating texture and variety in our work, creating interest not just through narrative but through language, separating from ego to recognize tendencies

More About Audiences

Creating an avatar of your audience, reading work out loud, do we have an electric fence around our writing? Making friendly, inviting gestures toward the reader

About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Listening for Revision is designed for writers interested in exploring the process of revising their work. I'll be sharing selections of unedited writing of my own and will walk through my process of shaping these pieces, as well as offering ideas, methods, and practices for “tuning in” to our writing with closer attention. Participants will then have an opportunity to experiment by crafting a revision from a piece This is an interactive workshop; participants are encouraged to ask questions and share their observations!
