This workshop will teach participants the basics of the Leave No Trace principles and how to minimize impact in an outdoor space. We will also apply the principles of Leave No Trace while walking in the nearby Thornton Creek Natural Area, rain or shine. It's ideal for new and experienced outdoor-goers interested in how to be respectful in outdoor urban or wilderness areas. This course will be a mix of lecture and hands on activities.

About the instructor, Catherine Charnoky: Catherine is a certified Leave No Trace instructor and has a formal Catherine has formal education in conservation as well as experience maintaining back country trails, backpacking, rock climbing, and edible plant foraging. She has a a lifetime of experience recreating and working in wilderness areas.

Our sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.
