Description

Circle processes are tools for healing, conflict resolution, communication, and growth. This meet-up will start with a brief introduction to circle processes and circle keeping. Then we’ll dive into a circle together to learn hands-on about what circle processes feel like and to get to know each other better.

Professor(s) or Facilitator(s): Owen Daniel-McCarter, co-owner of Babes Bar, former attorney, and Circle Keeping practitioner

Owen is co-owner of Babes Bar in Bethel and was formerly an attorney in Chicago, IL. Through his work with survivors of trauma and conflict, Owen became a trained practitioner of Circle Keeping through the Community Justice for Youth Initiative. He has used this tool in both professional and personal settings to build trust, address harm, understand conflict, and share stories.

Frequently asked questions

How can I get to Bethel? Where do I park, find a bus, or get directions?

Visit https://betheluniversityvt.org/take-a-class-2/venues/ for directions, venue addresses, bus schedules, and parking info. Free parking is at most venues and downtown. The Tri-Valley Transit offers commuter and weekend routes to White River Valley towns, Montpelier, and the Upper Valley.

Are the classes accessible? Do you offer accommodations?

Visit https://betheluniversityvt.org/take-a-class-2/venues/ for more detailed info. Most class venues are wheelchair accessible and have accessible parking. Zoom events have captioning. Contact us to request a hearing induction loop or other accommodations; we will help if we can.

Do you cancel for snowstorms or bad weather? How do I know?

BU typically follows White River Valley SU school cancellation policies, but we also may cancel if a professor can’t safely drive or is sick. If a class is postponed or cancelled, we will email students and professors ASAP. Check your email several times on your class day to be sure class is on.

I registered, but I’m sick or I can’t come. How do I cancel?

Look in your Eventbrite registration confirmation email, or login if you have an account or the app. You should see a link to change or cancel your registration. If not, email us at betheluniversityvt@gmail.com.

I’m not sure if I can come. Can I still register?

Please register only if you will definitely come. We work really hard to offer these amazing, free classes and we often have wait lists. It’s a big problem when people register and don’t show up. If you register and decide you can’t come, please cancel ASAP.

Is this a real university? Can I get credit for taking a class?

No, BU is not a formal or accredited university. We are a community pop-up university based in Bethel, Vermont. We give everyone the chance to teach, share, and learn.
