About this event

GravelNuts Heavy Grind 300

- a Smart-guided Bike Adventure - Central Ohio

Gravel is king! If that is you, this adventure is yours - 300 miles! Do it as an ITT (Individual Time Trial) bikepacking event* or a multi-day relaxed bike-camping adventure. It is 66% gravel with 21, 845 ft of elevation.

This 300-mile gravel adventure can be broken down into several days of overnight camping or grind it out in a single ITT effort*. Several POI (Points of Interest) campgrounds are marked along the route, and provided with route instructions.

For those doing it as a several-day bike-packing adventure get your camping gear packed, and get ready for a fun, gravel road-focused 300-mile camping adventure! The ride starts at a tasty spot in the countryside and proceeds to campground locations along the route.

Grocery/convenience stores are marked POI to replenish cooking supplies along the route before upcoming campgrounds. The best idea is to plan carefully what to cook in the evening. If it is a perishable item, keep in mind food safety. If possible, pack in ice and shade it on your rig.

There are also a couple of tasty stops along the way marked POIs, but just a couple. That's it. PLAN AHEAD because resupply spots are sparse along the route. Take note of food/resupply points of interest (POI). Campground POIs are also marked on the smart-guided route.

This cycling adventure will take you through scenic mid-Ohio countryside, towns, and on the fringe of Amish communities. The quiet rural countryside along gravel roads is the main feature of this tour.

The smart-guided 300-mile route is an impressive 66% gravel and comes with GravelNuts' 50% downhill guarantee. The segments that are not gravel are predominantly quiet low-traffic roadways. The route follows the topography of mid-Ohio, which is mostly mild to hard rolling hills. There are segments where you might be bike-hiking, but nothing to work up too much of a sweat over. Speaking of sweating - it's optional. You set the pace, starting time, and touring agenda.

Easily, with the smart guide you can wander away from the planned route to get a better look at points of interest you find along the way. The smart guide will get you back on track.

*If riding as an ITT an appropriate satellite dot tracker is highly recommended to validate your effort. Follow the ultra-endurance bikepacking community rules. Learn more here about self-supported bikepacking.
