About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join the Trust for Governors Island's horticulture team for a drop-in volunteer stewardship project in Hammock Grove. You'll work with the team to cut back and prune various plantings that have been left to grow all winter. Cutting these plantings back improves the health of our landscapes and allows for new growth during the spring season.

No gardening experience is necessary, though this project will involve bending, lifting, and other physical tasks. Instruction, gloves, and tools will be provided. Please dress for the weather, as this volunteer project will take place entirely outdoors.

Please take the 9:30am ferry from the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan. On arrival, volunteers should gather at Soissons Landing where a staff member will be waiting. Ferry tickets are not included with this reservation and can be reserved separately at govisland.org/ferry.

Governors Island Arts achieves this mission through temporary and long-term public art commissions, an annual Organization in Residence program in the Island’s historic houses, and free public programs and events in partnership with a wide range of cross-disciplinary NYC cultural organizations.
