About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join The Nature Conservancy and expert herpetologist, Chris Asquith, on a guided walk to make wildlife observations and identify species, specifically frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, snakes and other amphibians and reptiles. Families are welcome. Recommended for ages 6+.

Please wear rubber boots or shoes you don’t mind getting wet as we explore vernal pools and wetter areas of the property in search of amphibians and reptiles. No dogs. No bathroom facilities. No clearly defined trail--hikers will be walking in grassy fields and wetland habitats.

Forks of the Rivanna is a Nature Conservancy easement and wetland restoration property located on Bentivar Farm Road on the Rivanna River.

We have room for 15 participants. If your schedule changes, please let us know. Contact us if you would like to be added to the waitlist after the hike reaches capacity. A reminder email will be sent a week before the hike with additional information.

This event is part of the annual Charlottesville Region biodiversity challenge. The 2025 City Nature Challenge (rural areas, too!) will take place around the globe.
