Snipe Hunt and Twilight Timberdoodle Sky Dance

Witness the early spring airshow of Wilson’s Snipe and American Woodcock as they perform amazing aerial maneuvers as their courtship flights. Not the traditional neophyte camper initiation rite, this is a no-April-fooling snipe hunt as these long-billed birds “winnow” over the wetlands. From there, we move on to the meadow stage to watch male woodcocks (aka: timberdoodles) lift off to perform their rite of spring, an aerial ballet spiraling upward and careening back to earth. Short distance, level walking.

Meet at the Katydid Lodge.
