Light Without Sun

Light Without Sun is a documentary about Can Lis, a house designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon on the island of Mallorca and considered among the most significant projects of the twentieth century. Set within one day, the film reflects the sensory nature of architecture, using interviews, narrative, and choreography to challenge how buildings are documented.

The Filmmaker

New York-based director Clara Kraft Isono specializes in architectural documentaries that delve into the emotional and sensory aspects of design.

Her work with co-directors Christopher Fischlein and Marie Ramsing on Light Without Sun showcases her ability to capture the interplay of natural elements with built environments, creating films that resonate with both architects and general audiences.

Clara is an award-winning filmmaker and director of Kraft Isono a multidisciplinary design practice, working in architecture, film and design. Her creative practice is strongly embedded in academia having taught architecture for 25 years, most recently Harvard Graduate School of Design, Barnard College, Columbia University and Pratt Institute.

Her films have been screened at the Architectural Association, The National Gallery and The Royal Academy of Arts, in London, and various international film festival including, Raindance Film Festival, London, Shanghai International Film Festival, New York Independent Film Festival, Clermont Ferrand Film Festival and Mexico International Film Festival.

The Abbey PHX location is an outdoor courtyard, will weather postpone the event?

No. The Abbey PHX has a ballroom space we will move into if there is any weather threat. Rain or shine, the show will go on!

Will there be any concession sales?

Complimentary soft drink refreshments, popcorn and water are being provided courtesy of Coldwell Banker HISTORIC HOMES GROUP.

Does The Abbey PHX have a parking lot?

No. Parking garage at the base of the new “X Phoenix” high rise tower, on the NE corner of Monroe and 3rd Ave. It has hourly parking at $6 hr, so about $15 total for the screening. This is the most convenient option. Spaces in the garage are plentiful, the price is predictable.
