With Professor Haruko Wakabayashi

Please join us for this joint field trip with the Princeton Japanese Association. The trip includes a walking tour of historic sites, a lecture by Professor Haruko Wakabayashi, a viewing of the William E. Briffic Collection of archival materials, and a Japanese bento lunch, for $30.

If coming from New York City, a van will leave at 9am from the New York Buddhist Church at 331 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10025. There will be a separate charge for this round-trip service.

Will lunch be served?

Yes a Japanese Bento lunch is included in the cost

Will transportation be available?

If there are enough people there will be a Van arranged to transport folks from Upper West Side, Manhattan to Rutgers and back. The cost of the rental will be equally divided amongst the passengers. If interested, please send an email to info@ambudddhist.org

Will the lecture be in English?

The primary language for the lecture will be Japanese. There will be occasional translation. Slides will be in English.

The papers of William Elliot Griffis, a unique scholarly resource, document the experience of Westerners in Japan, the roots of Japanese-American relations, and the special friendship between Japan and Rutgers during the Meiji period (1868-1912).
