About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

F-1 work permission for graduating international students requires planning and preparation! Join ISO for a detailed discussion about F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) - what it is, how to apply for it, and how to use it. In addition to detailed guidance on applying for OPT, this workshop will also offer information about travel during OPT, unemployment during OPT, the STEM OPT extension, and transitions to the H-1B Temporary Worker visa category. This program is open to F-1 international students from all UR academic divisions, both graduate and undergraduate. Students can apply for post-completion OPT up to 90 days before their program completion, so if you will be graduating this term - this is the time to start planning! Students are required to attend an OPT workshop or have reviewed the recording before requesting a recommendation for OPT.

This workshop is open to University of Rochester community members (students, faculty, staff) only.

The International Services Office (ISO) Support and Engagement Team is working to provide community-building events for all international students across the University of Rochester campus. In addition to our social events calendar, we also sponsor the International Students and Scholars Advisory Board, manage ISO orientations, and work to build a comprehensive professional development seminar series for international students.
