As part of the activities surrounding the exhibition Fake News. The Power of Lies, Instituto Cervantes presents a compelling conversation between Spanish writer and journalist Daniel Gascón and American essayist and analyst David Rieff.

This thought-provoking discussion will explore historical memory, the distortion of the past, and the impact of revisionism in different societies. Drawing from Rieff’s extensive research, the talk will examine how memory policies have been shaped by war, conflict, and disinformation in places like the Balkans, Ireland, Argentina, South Africa, Spain, Russia, and Ukraine.

The conversation will also delve into historical revisionism, decolonial perspectives, and the spread of fake news, offering a critical lens on how memory is constructed and politically used today.

Esta charla explorará la memoria histórica, la distorsión del pasado y el impacto del revisionismo en distintas sociedades. A partir de las investigaciones de Rieff, se analizará cómo las políticas de memoria han sido moldeadas por la guerra, el conflicto y la desinformación en países como los Balcanes, Irlanda, Argentina, Sudáfrica, España, Rusia y Ucrania.
