About this event

Sullaluna NYC is happy to present DRAWING THE LINE, a series of conversations on the topic of satirical political cartooning, curated by Dan Perkins, aka Tom Tomorrow, author of This Modern World. On Sunday, March 16, at 6 p.m., the first event will feature cartoonist Ruben Bolling, author of Tom the dancing bug, who will talk with Perkins about comics, politics, and the times we live in.
Marina Catucci, US correspondent for the Italian newspaper Il Manifesto, will introduce the speakers.

The purpose of the evening is to stimulate conversation about underground culture and the power of comics to skewer all that is sacred. We also hope to laugh at a time when there is little to laugh about. And we like the idea of doing this in the heart of Greenwich Village, led by Tom Tomorrow himself, formerly a Village Voice cartoonist. After the event, you can grab a bite or a glass of wine—or even stay for dinner and continue the conversation with the authors.

Dan Perkins (Tom Tomorrow) is the creator of This Modern World, a weekly cartoon of political and social satire which has been a mainstay of the alternative press for more than three decades. His work has also appeared in publications including The New York Times, the New Yorker, Esquire, Spin, Mother Jones, U.S. News and World Report, the Economist, and many others. He is a two-time recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning, and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. This year, he received the James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons.

"This Modern World" can be found online on DailyKos.com, on the Tiny View app, and at thismodernworld.com.

Ruben Bolling is the author of the weekly "Tom the Dancing Bug," a free-format sketch comedy-based comic strip distributed by Andrews McMeel Syndication. Bolling has won the Herblock Prize, an RFK Journalism Award, and a Berryman Award, and has twice been a Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Clover Press is publishing the multi-volume "Complete Tom the Dancing Bug" series of books, compiling the entire run of the strip’s 34-year history. Eight volumes of the planned eight-volume set have been published so far, most recently It's the Great Storm, Tom the Dancing Bug. "Tom the Dancing Bug" can be found online on BoingBoing.net, DailyKos.com, GoComics.com, The Contrarian, and at tomthedancingbug.com.
