Frequently asked questions

What if it's cold, rainy, or snowy?

This is a rain, snow, or shine event. Unless it is unsafe to get to the farm (tornado, more than 5 inches of snow on the major roads, tsunami, etc.) Bring warm and waterproof clothing layers.

Will there be food?

Some of our skills sessions may involve some cooking and eating, but you should plan on bringing your lunch, water, and snacks.

Okay, so I know I need to bring lunch and warm clothing layers. Anything else?

It is a good idea to bring your knife, but if you don't have one, we can loan you one.

What kinds of skills can we learn?

In the morning we will be teaching basic skills like knot tying, bead making, and natural cordage. The afternoon sessions will be a little more in depth. We expect to have sessions on foraging, fiber basketry, leather bagmaking, mending, friction fire, shelter building, natural dyeing, and more!

Do you need instructors?

Sure! We'd love to have you. The best way to perfect your skills is to teach your skills. We welcome any age instructor. Just contact erin@cottonwoodinstitute.org and we'll discuss what you want to teach and if it will fit in with our gathering.
