Originally an 1880s gothic revival armory and beautifully restored after a 1982 fire, the Visitor Center now serves as a gateway to exploring the Essex National Heritage Area, which spans 34 cities and towns. Start your morning with coffee, connections, and local heritage at this architectural gem located in the heart of downtown Salem, across from the Peabody Essex Museum, and learn how Essex Heritage works to maintain our region's unique character and community vitality.
