The Carrollton BookFest is a two-day event for readers and writers. Three master classes for writers (Prose, with acclaimed author Bren McClain; Children's Literature, with Lola Schaefer, author of over 275 children's books; and Paths to Publication, with award-winning authors George Weinstein and Kim Conrey) will be offered from 9 am to 4 pm on Friday, April 4th. (Lunch provided for participants) On Saturday, April 5th, readers will have conversations with local, regional, and national authors in a literary salon atmosphere, including coffee and pastries in the morning sessions and wine and cheese in the afternoon. The keynote speaker, nationally best-selling author Karen White, will speak at 1:00 PM. Time will be provided during the lunch break for participants to explore Adamson Square with its cafes, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Books will be available for purchase with Bookmiser onsite, and opportunities for autographs will be available throughout the day.

Also represented will be members of Wild Women Who Write, Sisters in Crime Atlanta, and the Carrollton Writers Guild.

Come have a fun time and get to know these fabulous authors as the interesting and fascinating people that they are!

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply for the Master Class with Bren McClain

First, purchase a ticket for $25 which is the submission fee. Then send 1,000 words from your work (preferably the beginning of your manuscript) to carrolltonwritersguild@gmail.com. Deadline for submission is February 7, 2025. If you are selected, you will receive instructions by email by March 2nd.

Is the workshop on writing for children appropriate for beginning writers?

Yes, Lola is a fabulous instructor and will provide a great experience for seasoned as well as beginning writers.

Is the Center for the Arts handicapped accessible?

Yes, the venue for every event is handicapped accessible.

Is there parking at the Carrollton Center for the Arts?

Yes, there is parking at the CCAC as well as parking in the parking garage across the street.

Is the number of people limited in the Conversations with the Authors?

Yes, the limit is set to provide a more intimate experience. Bring your book club and make it a shared outing!

Will there be books for sale and can I get them autographed?

Yes, Bookmiser will handle sales at the event. The authors will be available to sign books at different times during the day. You may bring a book you have purchased ahead of time for signature as well. We encourage readers and book clubs to read a book before you come!
